Fitness is an Attitude

Fitness is surely an attitude! Attitude often influences how one responds to exercise, becomes motivated, and stays active. Getting into the groove can be a big challenge, we may want to throw ourselves into a vigorous exercise routine but in the long run, that might not be sustainable. The goal is to fit fitness into the weekly routines that you’re already used to, that way you can start off slow and find what works best for you! Set a clear target and celebrate the small wins but remember, it’s not a race or competition… we all start somewhere!

There is a great relationship between exercising and our physical/mental health. Maintaining a positive attitude towards fitness is essential and it begins with our thoughts. We need to train our brains to realize that what we do NOW, affects us later. Maintaining that positive attitude towards fitness can help us to stay motivated, encourage us to keep going, and reach the goals we set for ourselves. The mind and body are our tools to stay healthy and active and in order to use them, we must give them the fuel by getting up, out, and active! When you make small changes and create space to fit fitness into your life, you will begin to see gradual progress! Our bodies take care of us, now let’s take care of it!

FIND YOUR WHY!
Whether for health reasons or otherwise, try to always keep in mind the reason you started increasing your exercise levels and use it to motivate yourself. Get active to be healthy, stay independent, and improve the many aspects of life. Look for things to boost your attitude towards fitness. It doesn’t have to be boring, here are a million and one ways to stay active and something is always better than nothing!

At Harbour Landing Village, we have made it our commitment to instill a positive attitude in our residents towards physical activity and exercise. We provide numerous enjoyable physical activities and group exercises daily; which has graciously encouraged a positive mindset regarding fitness! We intentionally provide guidance and knowledge for our residents on the benefits of each and every activity they engage in, which makes it easier to make a decision on the physical activities they choose. In addition to that, there’s a gorgeous, perfectly sized walking path right outside our building which makes for a great stroll. Check it out sometime!

Go easy on yourself and have fun with it!

Good luck!

I’ve walked on the paths across the street from Harbour Landing Village and it’s always so wonderful to see the birds chirping and kids playing!

Happy National Indigenous People’s Day! Today is an opportunity to recognize the importance and history of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and communities across Canada!

How can we show our support today, tomorrow and every other day?

🧡Educate yourself on the residential school system and its ongoing impacts.
🧡Listen to the stories of survivors so that we can respect and remember.
🧡Support Indigenous artists, authors and small business owners.
🧡Donate to Indigenous organizations that provide support for residential school survivors.
🧡Wear orange to spread awareness, love and support on days like today!

A new month means a different Pillar of Successful Aging to focus on! ✨Fitness is an Attitude✨💪🏼😁

At the start of the year, to support seniors and healthy aging general, we put together our take on the “Pillars for Successful Aging” into a calendar for 2022. Our pillars are inspired by our unique Harbour Landing Village concept and values which enable our residents to live life to the fullest by emphasizing productive engagement, social connection, physical activity and nutrition in a welcoming and caring environment!🌟

💪🏼🏋🏻 Did you know that successful aging relies on fitness? Therefore, maintaining a positive attitude towards fitness is essential. As we continue with Harbour Landing Village’s sixth Pillar of Successful Aging, “Fitness is an Attitude”, it becomes clear that each pillar is important to the overall health of our seniors! 💙💪🏼🧠

Stay tuned for this months blog post and more on how we’re staying active at the Village!

On Day 5/5 of our Cultural mosaic week we highlighted the Indigenous People’s of Canada! We recognize that we are on treaty 4 territory and the First Nations of Saskatchewan are: Nêhiyawak (Plains Cree), Nahkawininiwak (Saulteaux), Nakota (Assiniboine), Dakota and Lakota (Sioux), and Denesuline (Dene/Chipewyan) 🤍💛♥️🖤

After a bus trip to the museum, our residents and children from childcare came together for some stories and a medicine wheel bracelet activity!
We shared some laughs and ate house made bannock that everyone enjoyed so much!

Checkout this link to learn more about indigenous medicine wheels: https://www.ictinc.ca/blog/what-is-an-indigenous-medicine-wheel

Thank you everyone for this AMAZING cultural mosaic week! 🇮🇳🇵🇭🇺🇦🇿🇲🧡 To celebrate the incredible diversity within the Village, we choose the following countries and cultures to feature:
Monday - India
Tuesday - The Philippines
Wednesday - Ukraine
Thursday - Zambia
Friday - Indigenous People of Canada

*See our previous post for details on each day!

Welcome to Zambia, home to awe-inspiring natural wonders, an abundance of wildlife, huge water bodies and vast open spaces! 💚♥️🇿🇲🖤💛 Day 4/5 of Cultural Week at the Village!

We are lucky enough to have 2 wonderful staff members from this country! Mable gave a fantastic presentation of her home country and her daughter brought in Vitumbuwa for us to try! Our residents LOVED It and some even went for thirds! 😋

Fun fact about Zambia, it’s home to the Big Five of wildlife including lions, rhinos, elephants, hippopotamus, and the leopard! South Luangwa National Park is a protection area for them! 🦁🦬🐘🐯🦏🦛

After hearing about how beautiful and wonderful Zambia is, we’ve all decided to fly there for our next Village excursion! ( if only!! )
